Jacks Reef Oct

Sunday October 7th's paddle at Jack's Reef had 8 paddlers enjoying another day of dry weather although the thermometer dropped a couple degrees on the way to the launch.  Bill E, Mike, Ginny, Sandy, Yingzhen, Hugh, Rick and Cindy went down the channel to the river and back up to our sandy beach snack break stop in Cross Lake enjoying the scenery of changing leaves, assorted birds and just a few motor boats to disturb our quiet on the water.  No bald eagles or osprey were around today.  Riding the current back to the launch on "sheet-of-glass" water brought us to 3:30 for the half hour of necessary packing up.  Dave L appeared in the parking lot to join our dinner party with his casted foot and cane, another tale of surgery, and house building career stories for our amusement.  He should write a book.  Seven paddlers enjoyed dinner at the nicely rebuilt The Reef Restaurant with the fish sandwich and fries chosen by 5 that were all 10" haddocks and the fries were just right too.  Google Jack's Reef Hotel for the 200 year history of the spot that was quite famous in CNY lore.  Parting company we said "we'll see you when we see you" since Sundays' paddling future is weather dependent.
