THIS WAS THE TRIP REPORT FOR THE ORIGINAL TRIP WHICH WAS CANCELED APRIL 29.
1 PM launch forecast: 36 degrees, 14 mph winds, 71% chance of rain and SNOW. Blah!! Tuesday’s forecast 70 degrees; Wednesday’s 75 degrees. Gotta love central NY.
HERE IS THE NEW JUNE 3 TRIP REPORT
Under a heavily overcast sky, Eric led the paddle and took pictures with Amy, Sue, Cindy MP and newcomers Renee, Pat and Bruce in attendance as well. Everyone loved the new launches with rollers and rails that provide easy access in and out! We met a couple of fishermen on a boat who warned us about the aggressive male swan up the river a spell. There’s was quite a bit of boat and jet ski traffic which made it easier to circumnavigate the swans as they weren’t playing chicken with us in the middle of the river and we easily avoided any confrontations by paddling on the opposite side of the river from where they were dallying. There was a baby swan with one pair and we now know how the story of the ugly duckling came to be as the little thing was not quite the beauty in its dull gray form as the pretty parents. We saw some blue heron and one camp had a neat light house near the water with a large American flag waving proudly. The weather was looking stormy so we turned around about midway out. We had a few rain drops and a stiff wind on the return trip. Cindy and Amy ventured toward the lake to say hi to the team manning the booth for Demo Days. The waves were rolling pretty good on the lake so we didn’t round the point heading full on into the lake as CindyMP was skirtless and there was no way she was going swimming in that lake no matter what they say! With the wind at our back, it was a great deal easier paddling back to the launches and we saw two adorable duck families, one with seven tiny babies and the other with too many to count quickly. A few of us went to the Retreat in Liverpool for a bite afterwards.
