Port Bay South (2019) New
Sunday, June 2, 2019 (Launch Time 1:00 PM) Canceled, launch closed
This is a new launch for 2019. From this launch we can head south to Wolcott Creek or north on the bay to Beaver Creek. Wind can be a factor. The last time we paddled Port Bay (2010) from the north launch, Lake Ontario was flat and Port Bay was choppy, so we paddled to Chimney Bluffs on Ontario. This launch may be more sheltered than the one on the north end, and there are creeks nearby. We will give it a try.
Note: We typically stop half way through the paddle for a break. Feel free to bring something to snack on. Also, be sure to note the weather conditions by clicking the "Local Weather Forecast" button, and check the website for last minute changes or cancellations.
Directions: Take route 104 to Wolcott, NY. Turn north at the McDonald’s in Wolcott and follow the road through the village (Whiskey Hill Rd, then New Hartford St, then Lake Ave). At the one and only stop light, you go straight. You will soon be through the village. Stay right on the West Port Bay road (rt 160) for about 4 miles. On the right hand side of the road you will see the DEC fishing access sign. (The launch is on the road before Woodtract Rd, so turn around if you reach Woodtract).
