Otisco Lake

It was a scorcher today and several kayakers headed for the water. A few travelled to Chippewa Bay on the St Lawrence, one sought shade at the Owasco Inlet and a handful stayed local to paddle the scheduled Otisco Lake. They were Christine, Dave F, Kim, Sue, Emile and his canine friend Kenna. Emile paddles the lake often and decided to join us this Sunday. He said he usually paddles on the quieter days though. It was not a quiet day today. We had recreational boat company on Otisco and that meant we had plenty of rolling waves along with the views and sounds of families having fun.

We started on the sunny east side passing the duck, goose, seagull safe zone. Those poor creatures were smart to stay on the sideline instead of gathering out in the middle of the lake. We stopped for a break from the sun at Christine’s. Two kayakers dove off the dock into the refreshing water to cool off. Ahhhh!!! After snacks and conversation we headed for the shade on the west side. It was cooler there and we even felt a couple of breezes. It was quite nice. As we neared our launch we spotted 3 adult bald eagles. They were playing with each other overhead and appeared to be performing some sort of somersault act. It was a wonderful sight.

Those who did not have to hurry home went to Doug’s in Skaneateles for food. Oh, and desert. If you haven’t tried their blueberry sundaes, you are truly missing out on the best summer treat your taste buds have ever enjoyed. Promise!
