Lights on the Lake

What a glorious day for a paddle!! Who would believe it would be so nice on our December paddle viewing the Lights on the Lake. Members who have been in the Kayak Club longer than I have, said it was the finest that they could remember, temperature near 50 degrees at launch time and no wind to speak of. There were no snowbanks to slide kayaks over to reach the water, no ice to maneuver around, no freezing hands or faces, no wind driving your boat to shore and no frost on the boat or rack to make loading tricky. There were a variety of ways boats were lit to glow in the dark. There were headlights, jacket lights, boat mounted lights, glowsticks, and inventive solar LED lights in clear enclosures that Amir put in his hatches.

A few kayakers started earlier to get in extra miles. Three elegant swans joined us along the shore. Airplanes flew low overhead. The colorful twinkling Lights on the Lake displays seemed particularly bright this year. But the best part of the trip was the magnificent sunset. Mother Nature outdid herself!! Check out Ray’s video. He captured it perfectly. Thanks, Ray.

The kayakers were Ray, Bob, Hugh, Amir, Jim, Kim, Christine, Bill, Eric, Cindy, Rick, and Steve. We gathered at The Retreat after the paddle and were joined by some of our favorite people, Walt and Jodi. The food was good as usual. We chatted about paddling next weekend as well. The weathermen are predicting that this warm weather will continue. Keep an eye on the message board for details.
