Mays Point NY

Mays Point Nov 2, 2014

It was a bit nippy (42 degrees) and a bit windy (18 mph with a few stronger gusts) but 6 paddlers were determined to enjoy that amazing sunshine in their kayaks. One hoisted his handcrafted birthday boat in one hand and made the rest of us so jealous. It is a handsome boat and Hugh did an amazing job building it in less than a week. We were also jealous of how nicely it moves through the water with that skinny handmade paddle, which was perfect for a windy day like today. Nice work!!

Some of the wildlife on the refuge enjoyed the day as well. A couple of eagles watched us from their huge nest. We spotted osprey, hawk, cormorants, heron, a variety of ducks, geese, and groups of smaller birds. The wind whistled through the trees and kicked up some nice waves on the way back for us to ride on. It was a perfect autumn paddle that ended with some tasty hot chocolate thanks to Kathy. We peeled off a couple of layers, patted down the mohawks created by our wool hats, and traveled to CCs in Auburn for a delicious meal and fun conversation. Paddlers were Kim, Kathy, Eric, Christine, Mark and Hugh.
