Black River 8/3/14

Despite the threat of rain, four intrepid paddlers (Ruth, Bill, Ray, and Walt) turned out to paddle Black Creek from the bridge on Route 8. The creek was low, but there was a swift downstream current. After negotiating a tricky launch site we headed upstream through beautiful meandering scenery.

We stopped for a few minutes in the shelter of some overhanging tree while nature decided to rain on us for a few minutes. Natures also provided us with a few mosquitoes under the trees. So when the rain slowed to a dribble we continued on. Upon reaching a small bridge that crosses the creek (we were told it was a driveway bridge) we encountered low water and rapids, so we headed back downstream. When arriving back at the launch site, we decided to continue downstream for a little while. Our total distance was about 7.5 miles.

After negotiating the launch site back to our vehicles and loading up, three of us went to the small hamburger stand located on Route 365 outside of Barneveld for food and the obligatory ice cream. Unfortunately, we had no photographers on the tip, but it was a very nice trip.
