Lake Eaton
Camping/Kayaking Weekend
August 19-21, 2016

The Lake Eaton campground is 12 miles north of the Adirondack Museum and 1.5 miles from the Village of Long Lake. We will plan to follow our normal schedule.  If you are interested in camping, you will need to make your own campsite reservations through Reserve America Online.   We will be reserving in the area of sites 60-85, 120-135.  Read carefully because some are walk-to sites (Park car & carry your gear).   We we will be looking for people to host the Saturday group breakfast and the Saturday group dinner.

Directions:  Take the NYS Thruway east from Syracuse to Exit 33 (Route 365). Take Route 365 toward Rome, NY. There are several turns as Route 365 goes around Rome, so watch for the Route 365 signs. Continue on Route 365 to Routes 12 & 28 North toward Old Forge. Take Route 28 North to Long Lake.  Turn left on Route 30 North.  The campground entrance is 2.5 miles on the left.
GPS info 43.98883, -74.46196

FRIDAY we will paddle Harris Lake. It connects with the upper Hudson River to the east. This is a new paddle so there could be surprises. Directions: take 28N east out of Long Lake. Turn left on Harris Lake Rd in Newcomb, NY. The launch is on the right. There is a park nearby.

Friday evening you can choose to dine in Long Lake or eat at the campground.

SATURDAY morning we will fill up on a shared breakfast on site 61. Please post your dish on the message board.

Saturday after breakfast we will ride a wagon towing our kayaks 5 miles to Newcomb Lake. Reservations with Newcombe Farm Horse Drawn Wagon Rides are encouraged. If you did not RSVP with the club, you can make your own reservations by calling 518-639-5534 / 518-480-1743. There is a charge. You are also free to portage the 5 miles. It is a 2-mile long secluded lake which connects to Lower Duck Lake then Upper Duck Lake on the west side and Newcomb River then the Hudson River on the east side. There are 6 or 7 trails for those who want to hike instead of paddle. This will be an adventure, since we have only seen pictures and some U-tube videos. Directions: take 28N east out of Long Lake. Turn left on Newcomb Lake Rd in Newcomb, NY.

Saturday’s shared dinner location TBD. Please post what you will be bringing.

PLEASE NOTE, if you plan to paddle with us on Friday or Saturday and are not camping, please let us know. Paddle locations and times could change due to unforeseen circumstances, like the unpredictable weather. Friday we expect leave the campground around noon to allow time for travel and campsite set up. Saturday’s time will be determined by the horses pulling the wagon. It will be posted on the message board.
