whitney point kayaking

May 1 was an appropriate start to the CNY Kayakers paddling season with a fun afternoon on Whitney Point Reservoir out of Dorchester Park which was underwater at the picnicking end and the shoreline on an uphill slope of the lawn so no docks were needed, however, there are some very nice large docks there, but way underwater now.   And the water is the color of coffee with milk.  Bob, Bill, Eric, Rick, Cindy, Walt, Dave, Roger, Tim, Hugh and Pam set out up the lake with a nice south wind speeding them to the bridge which was way underwater.  Many laughs were had paddling over the bridge and up the road over the yellow center lines and reading the road signs about no vehicular traffic allowed as we paddled through treetops and over shrubs.  Back out to the lake for the return trip against the wind.  Luckily it was warm wind, which could have been much stiffer, like we experienced last year.  Back at Dorchester Park were many picnickers on the hillside and some canoes out in the lake.  A very lively afternoon ended at 4:00 for the requisite refueling dinner at Aiello's just down the road attended by 7 before the evening drive home into the sunset.
