Whitney Point Reservoir kayaking

Our Whitney Point Reservoir inlet river paddle was enjoyed immensely by 13 paddlers working off some calories against a pretty stiff current.  Bob  did a prepaddle paddle of the reservoir before charging up the river with Mary & Charles, Walt, Rick & Cindy, Eric, Sandy, Kim, Sue, Gene & Tish, and Dave F.  A very suitable 60 degrees and mostly sunshine was very helpful, however, there was quite a breeze blowing from the south with the southward flowing river against it.  We went as far as possible before succombing to the current, whirlpools, etc. to stop for lunch on a sandbar before the quick trip with the current to the bridge put-in site which we really liked for the easy launching just yards from our car.  The reward of dinner led everyone except Bob to Marathon's Three Bear Inn where the historic building and its furnishings, service and food were very good.  It was learned there of a summer opportunity hosted by the Inn of a one-way paddle down the main river of the area which we will be looking forward to partaking of next summer.  The drive down Route 81 to Whitney Point and Marathon is easy and acceptable in length.  An early drive home at 6:00 was just right.
